Hugh Mattan Alias Tony Ranks

I was born in Clarendon, Jamaica - West Indies, in the Year of 1955.

1955. I came to England at the age of 8 years old in 1963. Where I attend both primary and secondary education. As a young man, I was fascinated by electricity and went on to pursue this field as a career. After I left school, I went on to college, and achieved city and guilds in Electronic Servicing. I worked in the field as a test engineer for 4yrs and was made redundant. I then joined London transport as a bus driver in north west London, For basically 6yrs, But I found it very stressful.

It was during this time that I really started writing lyrics and attempting to play instruments, like guitar and keyboard. I became acquainted with these instruments, the versatility of keyboard enabled me to formulate chords and therefore build basic tracks for the lyrics I had written, recording them onto TDK cassette. Up to this time I had written at least twenty songs, and built twelve basic tracks.

After about two years I met a band called the CYMERONS. Well! I spoke to the Bass player FRANKLIN DUNN, and played The tape. I told him that I wanted to build an album and needed his help. Along with the members of his band GEECHIE, MORRIS, DEGO, NESCA, ABE (Engineer), JIMMY (Engineer) all gave me valuable inspiration. Big respect to OWEN GRAY, ALTON ELLIS, and last but not least TREVOR STAR. We recorded 12 tracks on master tape, however we did not finish the album, due to a combination of lack of funds and the studio had to close because of managerial issues

During the late 90’s I met a producer called RICCO , he had a studio built in his flat, along with my brother VICTOR MATTAN, T.SCOTT, MARVIN Rico’s brother. Spent many a nights in Rico’s flat, building rhythm tracks for another album to which I have written 12 songs.

In 2009 i decided to pick and mix from both album's and create an album, i gave the tapes to MATT CATLOW an engineer from Endell Street Studio to listen to. We decided to transfer the tracks to CD and we did. we now have the album LOVE FOR THE WORLD consisting of 12 tracks one of which (IN BETWEEN TWO lOVERS) is due for release at the end of october to mid november. For the track Love for the world Gloria must be honoured and for the track Humble your self Aubrey Barry must be honoured.
